Dopo aver ingaggiato la centrale Laura Melandri e l’opposto Alice Stafoggia nelle scorse settimane, la Clai Imola Volley continua nella sua piccola “rivoluzione” invernale completando l’acquisto di Nicole Rocha Drewnick.
La palleggiatrice classe 2001, in possesso del doppio passaporto brasiliano ed americano (la sua famiglia vive a Dallas), sarà la prima giocatrice straniera ad indossare la maglia del sodalizio santernino ed il suo recentissimo arrivo in città, per certi versi storico, è accompagnato da molta curiosità ed allo stesso tempo da altrettante aspettative da parte di tutto l’ambiente biancoblu.
Dopo aver iniziato l’attuale stagione nel massimo campionato brasiliano tra le fila del Brasilia, Nicole ha scelto di entrare a far parte del mondo Clai accettando con grande entusiasmo e voglia di mettersi in gioco l’offerta del presidente Stefano Mongardi. Nel suo recente passato, prima della formativa esperienza nella Superliga brasiliana che tanto l’ha fatta crescere sotto ogni punto di vista, tanta pallavolo universitaria negli States e un’annata spesa giocando da grande protagonista nel campionato portoricano.
Regista dotata di buona fisicità (è alta 186 centimetri), Rocha Drewnick sostituisce Matilde Pinarello nel roster imolese e già dal prossimo match (domenica 19 a Macerata) affiancherà Emma Rizzieri nel ruolo di palleggiatrice, portando all’interno del gruppo quell’esperienza e quelle motivazioni che potrebbero diventare ottimi propellenti nella lunga corsa verso la salvezza.
Aspettando con impazienza di vederla all’opera in campo per ammirare le sue qualità tecniche, iniziamo a conoscerla attraverso le sue parole:
La tua avventura a Imola sta per iniziare. Che emozioni stai vivendo in questi giorni?
“Sono estremamente grata alla società per avermi dato la possibilità di giocare qui a Imola lo sport che amo così tanto. Dentro di me in questo momento ci sono tanta eccitazione e allo stesso tempo altrettanta concentrazione per l’inizio del mio percorso con questa maglia”.
Cosa ti aspetti dal campionato italiano? Hai visto qualche partita prima di partire?
“Si, ho visto parecchi match e mi aspetto un livello di competitività molto alto che mi permetterà di continuare a crescere come giocatrice sotto ogni aspetto. In Italia si gioca un’ottima pallavolo e sono davvero molto contenta di poter finalmente intraprendere quest’esperienza lontano dal mio paese di origine”.
Cosa credi di poter portare alla tua nuova squadra?
“Sono da sempre una gran lavoratrice e spero tanto di instaurare subito un’ottima intesa con le mie nuove compagne. Nella mia carriera ho avuto parecchi allenatori che mi hanno detto di essere una giocatrice molto ordinata in campo, quindi vorrei prima di tutto vorrei poter dare sicurezza alla squadra dentro al rettangolo di gioco. Anche l’intensità è una delle mie armi migliori, ma prima di tutto vorrei trasmettere l’immenso amore che ho per questa disciplina”.
Come stai fisicamente? Già pronta per scendere in campo a Macerata?
“Si, sono assolutamente pronta e mi sto preparando per arrivare al massimo alla gara della prossima domenica. I miei genitori attualmente gestiscono una palestra a Dallas dove si può giocare anche a pallavolo, quindi solitamente passo lì molto del mio tempo durante la giornata. Sono cresciuta in quell’ambiente e mi piace tantissimo andarci ogni volta che posso. Nessun giorno di riposo”.
Raccontaci qualcosa di te…fuori e dentro dal campo
“Nella mia carriera pallavolistica ho fatto tutti i ruoli a parte il libero e amavo veramente tanto giocare opposto e banda. Come regista mi aiuta molto quando le mie attaccanti sono molto aggressive e spingono forte sui palloni che servo loro. Per il resto, non vedo l’ora di visitare tutti i bellissimi monumenti che ci sono nel vostro paese. Mi piace molto viaggiare e provare cibi nuovi assieme agli amici e alla mia famiglia. A casa cucino, leggo, ascolto parecchia musica e spesso gioco con i videogiochi. Nel tempo libero mi dà grande soddisfazione trasmettere le mie conoscenze alle giocatrici più giovani che si stanno avvicinando a questo bellissimo sport, per aiutare le nuove generazioni condividendo con loro quanto ho imparato finora. E se a qualcuno dovesse interessare…il pistacchio è il gusto di gelato che preferisco”.

After signing center midfielder Laura Melandri and opposite Alice Stafoggia in recent weeks, Clai Imola Volleyball continues in its small winter “revolution” by completing the purchase of Nicole Rocha Drewnick.
The setter born in 2001, in possession of a double Brazilian and American passport (her family lives in Dallas), will be the first foreign player to wear the jersey of the club and her very recent arrival in the city, in some ways historic, is accompanied by much curiosity and at the same time by as many expectations from the whole biancoblu environment.
After starting the current season in the top Brazilian league among the ranks of Brasilia, Nicole chose to join the Clai world by accepting with great enthusiasm and desire to get involved the offer of President Stefano Mongardi. In her recent past, before the formative experience in the Brazilian Superliga that made her grow so much from every point of view, a lot of college volleyball in the States and a year spent playing as a great protagonist in the PuertoRican league.
A player endowed with good physicality (she is 186 centimeters tall), Rocha Drewnick replaces Matilde Pinarello in the Imola roster and already from the next match (Sunday 19 in Macerata) she will flank Emma Rizzieri in the role of setter, bringing within the group that experience and motivation that could become excellent propellants in the long run to be not relegated.
As we look forward to seeing her at work on the court to admire her technical qualities, we begin to get to know her through her words:
Your adventure in Imola is about to begin. What emotions are you experiencing these days?
“I am extremely grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity to play here in Imola the sport I love so much. Inside me right now there is so much excitement and at the same time so much concentration for the beginning of my journey with this jersey.”
What do you expect from the Italian championship? Did you see any matches before you left?
“Yes, I have seen several matches and I expect a very high level of competitiveness that will allow me to continue to grow as a player in every aspect. There is very good volleyball being played in Italy, and I am really very happy to finally be able to undertake this experience away from my home country.”
What do you think you can add to your new team?
“I have always been a hard worker and I hope very much to establish a good understanding with my new teammates right away. I’ve had several coaches in my career tell me that I’m a very tidy player on the court, so I would first like to be able to give the team confidence inside the playing rectangle. Intensity is also one of my best weapons, but first of all I would like to convey the immense love I have for this discipline.”
How are you doing physically? Already ready to take the field in Macerata?
“Yes, I’m absolutely ready and I’m preparing to be at my best for next Sunday’s match. My parents currently run a gym in Dallas where you can also play volleyball, so I usually spend a lot of my time there during the day. I grew up in that environment and I really enjoy going there whenever I can. No days off.”
Tell us a little about yourself…on and off the court!
“In my volleyball career I have played every position except libero and I really loved playing opposite and band. As setter it helps me a lot when my forwards are very aggressive and push hard on the balls I serve them. Otherwise, I am looking forward to visiting all the beautiful sights in your country. I really enjoy traveling and trying new foods together with my friends and family. At home I cook, read, listen to a lot of music and often play video games. In my spare time it gives me great satisfaction to pass on my knowledge to younger players who are getting into this beautiful sport, to help the new generation by sharing with them what I have learned so far. And should anyone be interested…pistachio is my favorite flavor of ice cream.”
